A Prayer for Pastor Yeison

National Latino Evangelical Coalition — Holy Week 2026

We ask you to join us in prayer for our brother in Christ, Pastor Yeison Cortes Vasquez. During Holy Week 2026, Pastor Yeison was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and is being held at the Delaney Hall Detention Center in New Jersey. He has no criminal record and an active asylum case, yet he has been separated from his wife, three daughters, and the congregation he has faithfully served.

Even in custody, Pastor Yeison has continued to minister to others.

In this moment, we turn to prayer—standing in solidarity with Pastor Yeison and all who are suffering, while calling for compassion, dignity, and the protection of our most fundamental freedoms for citizens and immigrants alike.

Our Prayer

Merciful Lord, we lift up Pastor Yeison Cortes Vasquez to You in this holy season. A faithful shepherd to his community, he now sits in detention, separated from his wife, daughters, and congregation. Draw near to him—be his refuge, his peace, and his strength. Let Your presence fill that place with hope. We pray for his family and church—comfort them, provide for them, and sustain their faith in this time of uncertainty.

As we hold fast to our faith, we also ask for compassion, dignity, and the protection of our most fundamental freedoms for citizens and immigrants alike—especially the freedom to worship without government interference. God of justice, move the hearts of those in authority to act with fairness, and make a way for Pastor Yeison to return home.

For You are our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Amen.
