National Latino Evangelical Coalition Applauds Bipartisan Reintroduction of the Dignity Act

Orlando, FL — The National Latino Evangelical Coalition (NaLEC) supports the reintroduction of the Dignity Act, a compassionate and commonsense immigration reform bill introduced today by Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar and Congresswoman Veronica Escobar. This landmark legislation offers a long-overdue response to our nation’s immigration crisis by balancing the need for secure borders with a humane, earned process for millions of undocumented immigrants.

NaLEC extends its gratitude to Congresswomen Salazar and Escobar for their courageous bipartisan leadership in advancing a legislative framework that reflects a sober approach to immigration. Their collaborative efforts represent a hopeful breakthrough in a debate that has remained gridlocked for far too long.

“Latino evangelicals, like evangelical Christians overall, want secure and orderly borders, but they are heartbroken by the large number of longstanding members of our churches and communities who are being detained in dehumanizing conditions, despite never having been charged with any crime,” said Rev. Gabriel Salguero, President of NaLEC. “The Dignity Act would address this crisis by providing a way forward rooted in the biblical principle that all people, including immigrants, are made in God’s image with inherent dignity. I’m praying this will move forward.”

The Dignity Act of 2025 includes vital reforms to secure the border, respect law and order, protect Dreamers, and provide undocumented immigrants with an earned, accountable opportunity to live and work legally—without amnesty and without burdening taxpayers. This legislation reflects the values that Latino evangelicals and many Americans hold dear: compassion, security, accountability, and dignity.

NaLEC believes this moment demands action. Our broken immigration system is harming families, destabilizing communities, and weakening our economy. The Dignity Act offers the strongest bipartisan foundation in years for meaningful, lasting immigration reform. We urge Congress to seize this opportunity and move forward with courage, unity, and the conviction that we can, and must, do better.
