The National Latino Evangelical Coalition (NaLEC) welcomes today’s U.S. Supreme Court decision affirming the constitutional principle of birthright citizenship as guaranteed by the Fourteenth Amendment.
This affirmation upholds a foundational promise that has shaped our nation for generations: that every child born on American soil is entitled to equal protection under the law, regardless of the circumstances of their birth.
As a coalition representing thousands of Latino evangelical churches across the United States, we recognize the immeasurable contributions immigrant families have made to our communities, our churches, and our nation. Their faith, work, service, and commitment continue to strengthen the American story.
We believe that every person bears the image of God and possesses an inherent dignity that cannot be granted or removed by any human authority. These biblical convictions complement our nation’s constitutional commitment to equal justice and equal citizenship. These convictions call us to engage our nation’s civic life with both conviction and humility, seeking the common good while honoring the God-given worth of every human being.
We pray that this decision serves as a reminder of our shared responsibility to uphold both the rule of law and the God-given dignity of every person. We continue to pray for our nation’s leaders, our courts, and our communities. May it inspire our nation to continue pursuing policies marked by justice, compassion, and faithfulness that foster human flourishing for all.
